Enrollment
Approximately 10,393 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students attend KU. Most of the student body, made up of 60 percent of women and 40 percent of men, are Pennsylvania residents. Thirty-one states and 63 nations are represented in the student body as well.
Academic Year
The academic year consists of two 15-week terms and two five-week summer sessions.
Special Academic Programs
Kutztown University offers an Honors Program throughout the undergraduate curriculum as well as national honor societies such as Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Epsilon Lambda. Students have the opportunity to see the world through 17 international exchange and study abroad programs. Freshmen seminars, independent study and internships are also offered, and sometimes required, for undergraduate majors. KU also has three MBA locations, and diversified and intensive academic support services for those students in need.
Faculty
KU’s faculty base is comprised of strong, teaching-focused professionals. Many professors with scholarly expertise engage in research, student/faculty research, writing and consulting. Eight-two percent of KU faculty have their terminal degree. KU has a student/faculty ratio of 19:1.
Library
Kutztown University’s Rohrbach Library is a modern, spacious facility with wireless Internet access and 527 network connections throughout the building. While it has seating for 800 patrons, its shelves hold 555,934 bound volumes, and nearly 42,000 print and electronic periodical subscriptions that can be accessed either on one of Rohrbach’s 223 state-of-the-art computers, or off-campus via Ezproxy. Rohrbach Library also provides students access to 1,324,817 microforms, and 95 electronic databases, which allow access to hundreds of thousands of e-books, documents, reports and images. Nearly 10,000 videos and DVDs, as well as computer and AV equipment are available for loan.
Special Facilities
Kutztown offers a wireless campus with 50 student-accessible computer labs containing nearly 800 PCs/Macs. The campus also houses a gallery, planetarium, observatory, TV production facilities, radio station, cartography lab, technologically equipped classrooms, and a curriculum materials center. KU also offers students the ability to study at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center, which is located on the north side of campus, as well as the Wallops Island Science Education (WISE) consortium, specializing in marine, earth, space, and science, located in Virginia.
Student Life
Approximately 180 student organizations make up KU student life. They include: advisory councils, academic, campus media, diversified interest, Greek, performing arts, public service, residency issues, social justice, spiritual, special interest, sports (club and recreation), and visual arts affiliates; plus musical entertainment, dances, lectures, comedy, excursions, and cultural events. The McFarland Student Union houses the bookstore, movie theater, game room, snack bar, TV lounge, coffeehouse, financial center, volunteer service center, One Card Office, Student Government Association Board Room, KUR student radio station, art gallery, Greek office, commuter lounge, and cyber lounge.
Residence Halls
Kutztown University offers students who wish to live on campus a choice of 14 residence facilities (10 coed, one single gender, three modified coed) that include three apartment-style, two suite-style, and nine traditional facilities. These buildings accommodate the 4,600 students that live on campus. All residence halls are wired for cable TV, telephone, Internet, and campus network access.
Athletics
Kutztown University is a member of the NCAA Division II, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with 10 men’s intercollegiate sports (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, and wrestling) and 13 women’s sports (basketball, bowling, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field). For those student-athletes not involved with intercollegiate play, extensive intramural and club programs are available. KU also offers modern athletic facilities including: swimming pool, football stadium, field house, fitness room, playing fields, hockey, tennis and basketball courts, indoor and outdoor track, and a cross country course. A new recreation center houses a fitness center/weight room, three fitness studios, two racquetball courts, an indoor rock climbing wall, two gymnasiums, a suspended jogging track, and a snack bar.
Financial Aid
Approximately 75% of students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, or student employment.
