KU Summer Art Camp 2024
2024 Summer Art Camps at KU!
Join us for a summer filled with creative exploration, art making, and adventure. Each week-long program is open to campers entering grades 1-9. Each camp is a full day, 9 am-4 pm. Campers are encouraged to wear clothing they can get dirty, bring along a water bottle, a packed lunch and snacks, and plenty of sunscreen for outdoor exploring! We'll break up the day with lots of outdoor time playing games and exploring the buildings and grounds of KU. All classes are taught by certified art teachers and KU art student assistants.

Create artwork from your imagination! Have you ever dreamed of something and didn’t quite know how to create it? Let’s work on it together during our week of summer camp. Explore and experiment how to document our thoughts and turn them into real life artworks through different skills and techniques. Enjoy the process of creating and being artists!

Students will become mini masters of the arts! We will learn how to use materials like the famous art historical masters used. Students will learn about famous artists and then utilize their processes and materials to create their own artworks. We will focus on different material processes everyday with time to experiment and explore before creating their own masterpieces.

Printmaking Extravaganza! $205, 12 kids max

Join us for a fun-filled week of printmaking! Campers will experiment with various materials and tools while learning several types of printing methods including stamping, monotype, gelli printing, collagraphy, relief printing, and more.
July 8th - 12th

This camp is for kids who like turning napkins into origami animals and paper plates into tennis rackets! We'll be using a variety of materials and techniques to create our own toys and games, like stuffed animals, inventive board games, and all kinds of paper toys. We'll also be spending a lot of time around campus engaged in play-based activities guaranteed to spark creative interactions with each other. Bring your imagination and maybe the contents of your recycling bin!

Immerse your child in a world of creativity, exploration, and self-expression through the captivating world of process art. The journey of creating art is just as important as the final masterpiece! Campers will learn a different “process” each day, including journaling, collage, sewing, painting, mixed media and more!

Campers will learn the ins and outs of using tools and materials safely while students design and create their very own jewelry and small objects in brass, nickel, and copper through age-appropriate projects. Students will learn metalsmithing techniques, including sawing, piercing, forming, finishing, chain making and cold connecting.

Have you ever seen Andy Warhol’s “Soup Can” art? We will be exploring the world of Pop Art each day by using different processes and techniques to understand why this art style is so popular. Make art inspired by comic books, bright bold colorful word art, and playful labels for everyday objects!

Create a portfolio of your designs of architecture, interior design, as well as fashion and commercial design using drawing rather than technology. Students will be able to create a dream room, custom city block, invent a company or product and create a logo and marketing materials.

Embrace the cozy, nature-inspired side of clay in this week of creating cottagecore-inspired ceramics by hand-building and using the wheel. Forage for inspiration during strolls on KU’s pastoral campus, learn how ceramics can be used in poetic ways, and build your own whimsical pottery that you'll get to keep and enjoy. Participants will create a variety of pieces that include drinking vessels, planters, vases, and more.
