CRRSAA Act 2021

The student portion of these funds have been expended.

Kutztown University has received federal funding from the Corona Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA).  While these new funds are similar to the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery and Economic Security, 2020 funds (CARES), they are indeed different. These funds are for higher education institutions to promote and ensure learning continues during the pandemic.

These funds can now be used to pay for:

  • Tuition and Fee bills at KU
  • Food
  • Housing
  • Course Materials
  • Technology
  • Health Care
  • Childcare expenses
  • Other Expenses (Expenses that do not fit any of the above)

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for CRRSAA funding if you are enrolled in the 2021 spring semester, have filed a FAFSA, completed verification if requested and are meeting all eligibility necessary to receive federal funding as stated in Section 484 of the Higher Education Act.  If a student does not have a FAFSA on file, but is eligible to file one, supporting documentation would be necessary for a request.

International, dual credit, non-U.S.-citizen students, visiting and transient students are not eligible for CRRSAA funding.

Will I automatically receive money if I am eligible?

Some students will be eligible for a flat award if they have exceptional need per the CRRSAA criteria, such as being Pell eligible.  For these students, an award may be added to their MyKU account and refunded to the student through their BankMobile preference automatically.  Eligible students were emailed March 26, 2021 from Financial Aid Services if they qualified as a recipient for a funding allocation..

When will I receive money for the flat award if I am eligible?

Students that were awarded funds on March 26, 2021 will receive these funds via their BankMobile Disbursement refund preference.  If the student selected ACH/Direct Deposit to an existing bank account - the receipt time is 2-3 business days on average.  If the student selected BankMobile VIBE - their receipt time was Friday, March 23, 2021 evening.  Students that do not have a refund preference on file, will want to make that selection immediately, otherwise they will experience significant delays and only receive the funds if the original address they used when applying to KU is where they live now.  Those students will want to reach out per the email they received.

What if I am not deemed eligible but have an emergent need?

We encourage all students who have an emergent need to complete an application for funding.  A committee will review and reply within 7 business days.  We understand all requests are urgent.  We do appreciate your patience as we review requests.

I noticed that this emergency funding now allows for funding to pay towards my bill on MyKU, how does this happen?

When you apply online, the application gives you a chance to check if you are looking for funding to assist you with your tuition bill or if you are looking for funds to be refunded to you for outside purposes.

  • How much will I receive?

We are committed to assisting all eligible students in continuing their educational path during the coronavirus pandemic to the greatest extent possible with the CRRSAA funds available.

Some funding may have been issued as a flat amount to certain students with exceptional need who qualified.  Students who were eligible were notified on March 26, 2021 and refunded through their BankMobile refund preference.  They are welcome to use these funds to pay their tuition bill if a balance remains due, in order to ensure they don't miss Fall 2021 registration.

  • How will I receive this money?

Emergency grants will be processed through Student Accounts through the refund option you previous selected with BankMobile Disbursements.  To review/modify your selected option, log into www.bankmobilevibe.com; to make a refund selection go to https://bankmobiledisbursements.com/refundchoices.  If you no longer have your personal code, click on Need a Code below the box and proceed.  If you are still having difficulty, please email the Office of Student Accounts for guidance and direction.

If the student requested the funding to pay their tuition bill as now allowed by the CRRSAA, then the payment would be applied to their MyKU account.

  • Do I need to repay the money?

No, you will not need to repay any money received through this federal emergency fund.

  • Can I apply for more funding than the flat award I may receive or have received?

While the flat award recipients have not yet been determined, nor funded, we post this item to help those planning.

Yes, you may.  Please note these awards are not intended to replace stimulus payments that a student may, or may not be, eligible for. These funds are to assist a student with the expenses above incurred in being able to continue learning during the pandemic.

You can request funds for the remainder of the 2021 spring semester – through May. After your application is received, we will contact you within 7 days at your KU email address to either notify you of your application approval or ask for more information. Please know we are reviewing these requests with urgency and ask for your patience if it takes a bit longer to respond.

Note, that while this is unlikely, if any funds remain after May 2021, applications may be considered for Summer 2021.

Funding for 21/22 school year and off campus housing needs are not applicable to this fund at this time.

  • Can I apply for funding more than once?

If you apply for additional funds after your base award, you may fill out the application again, however priority is given to first time applicants.

  • Does this funding affect my other financial aid?

Other funds for emergent needs may affect your Financial Aid cost of attendance limits.

  • What if I still have an account balance and receive a flat award amount of funding?

If you receive a flat award amount, that will be refunded to you via your BankMobile refund preference.  You can absolutely use this amount to pay your bill so that you can be cleared for Fall registration appointments and not miss out on the courses you want or need.

If you applied for funds - then you chose if you wanted funding to pay towards your bill or if you wanted funds to be refunded to you.
