Biography
Dra. Leslie C. Sotomayor II (she/her/ella) is a first-generation bilingual Spanish and English McNair scholar. She is a writer, artist, curator and scholar centering underrepresented and social justice themes in her work. Sotomayor’s studio art process is painting. Currently she is an assistant professor in Art Education and Frederick Douglas Institute Scholar at Kutztown University. Sotomayor’s most recent curatorial projects include Madres Radicales (CASP, TX, 2024), Voy a verte: The work of Jorge Gíl (Charles Adams Gallery, TX, 2024), Comadres en la comunidad (Penn State Woskob Family Gallery, 2024) and Hide & Seek: A neighborhood art space (Texas Tech University, 2023). Sotomayor’s writing and research include forthcoming co-authored book with Dra. Christen S. García, Art Borderlands in Theory, Practice, and Teaching (Routledge, 2025), co-edited book, BIPOC Alliances: Building Communities and Curricula (IAP, 2023), and Teaching In/Between: Curating Educational Spaces Through Autohistoria-teoría and Conocimiento (Vernon Press,2022).
