Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The university is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of Art & Design at Kutztown University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art History beginning fall semester 2025 with a focus on art history in global contexts.
Teaching responsibilities may include global Art History surveys, especially Art History B (1200-1850), Art History Seminar, and advanced courses in the area(s) of specialization. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities; continuing scholarly growth and professional development; and service.
Requirements: PhD in Art History or a related discipline conferred by the start of fall 2025 semester classes (ABD will be considered with evidence of completion by the start of fall semester classes); minimum 2 years experience as an instructor of record for Art History coursework (4 or more years preferred). Applications must include a letter of interest outlining qualifications and research interests, current curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, names, and contact information for three references, and unofficial transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work. Official transcripts from all degree programs and three letters of recommendation are required before campus interview. Successful interview and demonstration of relevant abilities are required. Course load will be taught primarily in person. If online teaching is offered, successful completion of the Teaching Online Certification Course offered through Kutztown University is required.
