MSU Hours & History

History

In 1968, the North Student Center was opened as the first officially planned college union at Kutztown State College. As the name implies, the North Student Center was located on the north or academic side of the campus with the intention of building other satellite college unions, particularly on the south or residential side of campus. However, the concept of building satellite unions never came to fruition.

The North Student Center was significantly expanded in 1992 per a student referendum, and the facility was renamed the Student Union Building. The original plan for the 1992 addition was scaled back because of budget constraints, and as a result, the construction was slightly reduced. This eventually led to the need to further expand the facility to meet the needs of a growing student body. In 2000 and 2001, two additions per a student referendum were added, totaling 28,500 square feet of new space. In May 2002, the University Council of Trustees renamed the Student Union Building the David E. McFarland Student Union Building in honor of the university's outgoing president.

  • Display Cases and Banners

    Display Case 

    Organizations, departments or committees wishing to reserve a display case must register with the  McFarland Student Union (room 274). Display cases may be reserved from 1 day to 4 consecutive weeks or one calendar month for the same event or program. Groups must set up and tear down displays in a timely fashion in order to allow the next group's reservation.

    Banners 

    Campus-based organizations wishing to hang banners may register requests (banner request forms) with the McFarland Student Union (room 274) at least two days in advance of their requested posting date. Please note that banners cannot be displayed for more than two continuous weeks.

    Posting

    Recognized student organizations or University departments are allowed two posting per event in the McFarland Student Union.

    • Postings must be handed into the Information Desk and stamped for approval and posting.
    • Postings may be displayed for no longer than four continuous weeks.
    • Organizations who do not submit postings at the Information Desk and/or are not stamped will have their literature removed.
    • Any exterior or outdoor postings adjacent to the McFarland Student Union must adhere to the KU's Outdoor Posting and Chalking Policy.
    • Off-campus organizations or activities may only be posted in designated areas.
    • No materials of any type may be posted on the walls, windows, doors or any other unauthorized portion of the McFarland Student Union without permission.
    • Unapproved materials will be removed and disposed.

    • Locker Rentals (Terms & Conditions pdf) - Lockers may be rented in the MSU for one academic year, individual semester, or summer. Cost is $15.00 ($10.00 will be refunded upon returning keys). Lockers can be renewed for a fee of $5.00. Visit the information center to fill out application form. 
    • Lost & Found - Lost and found items may be dropped off and picked up at the Information Center in the MSU. 
    • Postings - If you want to post your poster/ad in the MSU please get it approved by the information desk.
    • On-Campus Literature - The community is welcome to drop off literature.

    Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • PSECU

    Regular Academic Semester Hours:

    Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    Saturday – Sunday: Closed

    *Hours may be more limited during summer and break periods. Call to check availability.*

    The PSECU Financial Education Center does not accept or disburse cash or checks. Please visit one of PSECU's three ATMs on campus to deposit or withdraw funds. ATMs are located at the McFarland Student Union, Academic Forum (withdrawal only) and South Dining Hall. PSECU can be found on the web at PSECU.com
