Science Olympiad

What a TERRIFIC Day it was! Thursday March 19th

History: Established in 1985, PA Science Olympiad has been in existence since 1985. Originally started by Dick and Mimi Smith and involving just 30 teams competing in one location, it has grown to include more than 300 teams competing in six regional locations across the state.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Science Olympiad program is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female, and minority interest in science, creating a technologically literate workforce, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers. These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments and non-competitive events, incorporating Science Olympiad into the classroom curriculum, and attending teacher training institutes.

The annual Central East Regional Science Olympiad hosted by Kutztown University attracts large crowds every year. This year for the 17th Anniversary,  33 high schools and 9 middle schools from Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northumberland, Northampton, and Schuylkill Counties will bring teams (600+ students) to compete in over 46 events. Students practice and study hard throughout the year with coaches, teachers, parents, and community members in preparation for their events.
