First and Second Year Experience Program
Residence Life at Kutztown University is dedicated to providing our students with the resources and tools to serve as catalysts in the development of their character, leadership and problem solving skills as well as enhance their overall success at KU. Statistics show that the retention rate and academic achievement of students who live on campus for the first two years of their college experience is much higher than those who do not.
In Residence Life the initiatives that we embark upon are grounded in our Mission, Vision and Core Values. Our 6 Core Values, Academic Enrichment, Accountability, Community Engagement, Diversity, Empowerment and Integrity serve as the foundation for the Golden Paw Experience. Just as these values shape our department, we believe they can help to shape our students too. Through programs, workshops, and opportunities to interact with University faculty and staff, we hope to instill these core values in our Golden Bear students.
Resident students are automatically enrolled in our "Golden Paw Experience" program for their first 2 years with us. It is our hope that through their participation, their transition into the University will be made easier and they will develop a sense of pride and belonging to our Golden Bear Family.
Goals of the Program:
- To create a sense of community and belonging for resident students
- To create a platform for student self-advocacy and university outreach
- Provide resources and guidance for student success
