KU’s Department of Art Education encompasses a community of art education professionals who are passionate about teaching, leadership and service.

The Master of Art Education (M.Ed.) program empowers art educators to be leaders in the field by advocating for the power of the visual arts in a broad range of art education settings.

The Kutztown University Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Art Education program can be earned completely online, face-to-face or blended. 

The Master of Education in Art Education will:

• Prepare you to advocate for the role of visual art in society
• Provide you with advanced knowledge of curriculum development and instructional processes
• Engage you in critical and expressive response to art, visual culture, and current topics and issues in the field
• KU’s network of support begins the moment you enter the program and continues after graduation. You will be mentored by professors who are regionally, nationally and internationally recognized artists, educators and scholars.

  Most courses are taught in the evenings, weekends, summers, and online for maximum flexibility for those with busy schedules.

Take the next steps to complete your Masters Degree:

• Complete 30-33 semester hours of graduate coursework if you hold a Bachelor degree in Art Education or related field.
• Register for courses online, in the evenings, weekends, or in summers.
• Consider summer institutes focused on studio practice in the beautiful setting of Kutztown University
• Choose between two tracks: M.Ed. in Art Education with or without a thesis.
• Select 15-18 elective credits, chosen in consultation with the advisor reflecting your professional interests.
• Finish your degree in as little as two years or up to six years.

NOTE: The M.Ed. in Art Education is not a teacher-certification program. However, students who do not hold certification to teach art may opt to pursue this certification in conjunction with their requirements for the M.Ed. in Art Education. The Post-Baccalaureate Certification program culminates in a Pennsylvania Department of Education Level I certificate.
