Dr. Todd Walker has been a freelance trumpet player in New York City since 2001. He has performed on Broadway (Curtains, Gray Gardens), in various jazz and rock ensembles and recordings (DeVotchKa, Flat Tire, Quartet Raven-A-Ning (featuring Ray Anderson, Marion McPartland in Concert: “A Portrait of Rachel Carlson” – Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Black Box (TV Series) - Soloist, American Broadcasting Company (ABC): 2014 – and in the best classical organizations in town including Grace Church Choral Society, Di Capo Opera Theater, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra. Before arriving in NYC, Todd was a freelance trumpet player in Chicago and Germany. As an educator, Dr. Walker has taught at both The Juilliard School and The Hartt School of Music.
He is a native of Madison, WI, studied music at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music performance, studying with the legendary Robert Baca. He then moved to Bloomington, IN to pursue his master’s degree in trumpet at Indiana University, studying trumpet with the great John Rommel and jazz and commercial music from jazz legends David Baker and Dominic Spera. He received a DMA in trumpet performance from SUNY-Stony Brook, where he studied with the great Kevin Cobb, and continues to maintain an active and multi-faceted career as a performer, teacher, clinician, and recording artist in the New York area.
