Career Opportunities
Music educator in kindergarten through 12th grade, choral conductor, band director, string education specialist, orchestral conductor, general music educator, early childhood music educator, studio teacher, and music supervisor are just a few possibilities. Graduates with a dual degree may pursue a wider variety of musical fields such as freelance or ensemble performer, accompanist, music producer, conductor, composer/arranger, and stage manager.
Admission Requirements
Dedicated students who meet degree requirements for both performance and music education can complete a dual degree in these fields. Through careful curricular planning with an advisor and wise use of electives, the dual degree can usually be achieved in four and a half years with the use of occasional summer or winter courses. Students in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education must complete a minimum of 150 credits to be awarded dual degrees.
