Information for Capstone Advisors
This information is intended to serve as a guideline for the general structure of the Capstone Project Process. Individual projects will vary.
Semester 1
- Have conversations with your advisee to develop "doable" ideas
- Would the project need IRB approval?
- Should the student apply for funding?
- Can the project be completed in three semesters?
- Review the Capstone Proposal
- Sign off on the top part of the Capstone Record Sheet
- Sign off on the Independent Study (390) Paperwork for Semester 2 of the Capstone (optional)
Semester 2
- Offer the first of two Independent Studies (398) (optional)
- Work with the student to develop the syllabus and schedule for the semester
- Focus is on the research or project development (project permitting)
- Attend WIPS presentation
- Work with the student to identify potential conferences for Capstone presentation
- Assign grade for the Independent Study (if applicable)
- Did the student complete what was agreed upon to the quality expected?
- Did the student schedule and present their WIPS?
- Sign off on Independent Study (395) Paperwork for Semester 3 of the Capstone (optional)
Semester 3
- Offer the second of two Independent Studies (395)
- Work with the student to develop the syllabus and schedule for the semester
- Focus is on the writing (project permitting)
- Assign grade for the Independent Study (if applicable)
- Did the student complete the Capstone to the quality expected?
- Please note: the approved Capstone must be submitted to the Honors Program by the end of week 13.
- Sign off on the Capstone Record Sheet
- Attend senior recognition ceremony (more information to come during Semester 3)
- Submit advisor video brief (more information to come during Semester 3)
