Office of the Provost
Lorin Basden Arnold joined Kutztown University as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in June of 2021.
A graduate of Purdue University, her education had a split focus in interpersonal and organizational communication, as well as child development and rhetoric. As a faculty member at several universities, she has taught across the communication studies curriculum, with attention to interpersonal, family, and organizational communication, as well as qualitative methodology.
Dr. Basden Arnold’s research has primarily addressed issues related to family, often with embedded critical and/or feminist analytic frames. Most of her most recent scholarly work has been devoted to mothering and how cultural expectations of motherhood frame and restrict the experiences of mothers.
As a first-generation college student who attended a state school and has spent decades of service at state-supported schools, Dr. Basden Arnold has great enthusiasm and support for of all the work that Kutztown has done and continues to do to support diverse student populations as they work to reach their potential. She believes in the importance and power of lifelong learning and hopes that KU can find new and innovative ways to reach out to citizens of the commonwealth and beyond with programs that support their intellectual, civic, and career aspirations.
