Study Away/Abroad
At KU short-term, faculty-led study experiences that enrich student learning are defined as:
- Study Away = domestic.
- Study Abroad = international.
Both types of short-term study are:
- High-impact, transformative experiential learning
- Much more accessible for low-income students than long-term traditional study-abroad
STUDY AWAY IS INTEGRAL TO HIGHER EDUCATION, NOT AN ADD-ON, AND SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ALL WHO WANT TO PARTICIPATE.
Title III Grant Goal:
Increase # of faculty leading short-term study away/abroad experiences to expand equitable access to this high-impact practice (Year 5 goal is 8)
HOW does the Title III grant support study away/abroad experiences?
spearheaded by Dr. Christina Kinney, Office of International Education and Global Engagement
-
By providing funding for faculty professional development training on planning and best practices (first sessions held April 2024 by the Forum on Education Abroad)
-
By providing funding for faculty payroll for new study away/abroad programming to lower the cost to students (one of the barriers for low-income students)
-
By providing support for campus-wide awareness for all high-impact practices, including study away/abroad
