Music Performance

Bachelor of Arts

Music has different meaning for different people but for you if music means more than just a simple tune, this may be your program. Do you hear music in the patter of raindrops on the window, a dribbling basketball, children laughing?  KU’s combination of superb mentoring by renowned artists/teachers, small class sizes, diverse performance opportunities, and a well-rounded curriculum is ideally suited to guide you to professional success. Because life is full of song, and the world is ready for your verse.

The KU Music Performance emphasis is designed for students with an interest in performing, conducting, writing or teaching music outside of the public schools.  Some students elect to pursue a minor or a double major in programs such as audio engineering; jazz studies; music history; business; marketing; communication studies; cinema, media and television production; or professional writing to become more marketable.

The Music major with an emphasis in Music Performance provides preparation for students aspiring to take their place on the stage, to teach in private or community music settings, or to work collaboratively in the vast field of the performing arts. Students have the opportunity to study with professional musicians who are making a living as performers, recording artists, and composers. Perform on-campus, regionally in a variety of venues, and take your talents to the top in places like the famed Carnegie Hall.

Career Opportunities
Graduates may pursue a career in a wide variety of musical fields such as freelance or ensemble performer, private lesson teacher, accompanist, music producer, conductor, composer/arranger, and stage manager. Many students also continue their music studies at the graduate level.
