Equal parts entrepreneur, educator and musician, Dr. Deborah Andrus believes that what is required to face a musical challenge is a solid plan and a supportive mentor. Lauded for her “inspirational teaching” by her students, Debbie won the T. Edgar Shields Prize for Outstanding Teaching in 2009. Through her global clarinet studio, Clarinet Guide LLC, Dr. Andrus assists her students to creatively solve their challenges through goal-setting and positive, encouraging mentorship. This allows each student to find their unique voice and to express themselves more beautifully through music.

Dr. Andrus is the author of the clarinet chapters for Teaching Woodwinds, a woodwind methods resource for music educators, which was called in a review in The Clarinet as a “…hands-on book with excellent audio examples…as well as a wealth of videos and resources.”  Beyond Teaching Woodwinds, Dr. Andrus is also the author of The Chalumeau Register, published in 2020.   Deborah is thrilled to announce that her third book, DIY Clarinet with co-author Michelle Anderson, is in the final editing stages and will be distributed by the Hal Leonard Corporation.

In addition to her work as a music educator and clarinet pedagogue, Dr. Andrus is the clarinet professor at Kutztown University and Lehigh University. She is a tenured member of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, and performs chamber music with the SATORI Chamber Ensemble and the DeMarina Trio. Outside of music, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family, making art and exploring the outdoors.
