Micro-Internship Program

Facilitated by the Title III Grant and the Career Development Center

KU’s micro-internship program is cultivated through relationships with our regional employer and school district partners to offer personal, customized support. Micro-internship opportunities are:

  • Paid, short-term projects (10-40 hours, 1-4 weeks)
  • Often completed remotely, but may be hybrid or in-person
  • During the semester, winter or summer breaks
  • More accessible to students restricted by academic, work, or family responsibilities

The Title III grant funds a Project Manager to develop the program and engage prospective partners. This included co-hosting the Innovation in Education Summit with the College of Education in July 2024 for our school district and educational support organization partners.

Although micro-internships are a fairly new nationwide initiative offered most frequently through third-party vendors, they are already proving to be a positive step in delivering integral career preparation for students on their way to degree completion. KU’s five-year goal is to offer 25 micro-internships annually. Year 1 of the grant aimed to be a program-building year without any micro-internships offered. However, we are excited to announce we surpassed expectations and have offered 7 micro-internships since the Summer 2024 term.
