Conflict Resolution
All members of the Kutztown University community are expected to deal with each other with respect and consideration. Each community member is expected to treat other community members with civility and respect, recognizing that disagreement and informed debate are valued in an academic community.
Demeaning, intimidating, threatening or violent behaviors that affect the ability to learn, work or live in the University environment have no place in the academic community.A member of the community who is involved in or witnesses behavior that poses imminent danger should immediately contact the Department of Public Safety (610-683-4001 emergency number). In situations that do not involve imminent danger or for advice on the appropriate course of action, employees should contact their supervisor or unit head (faculty members should contact the Dean of his or her respective college.) The Office of Social Equity (610-683-4700) will handle complaints alleging sexual harassment, as well as complaints alleging discrimination and/or harassment on the basis of race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or veteran status. More information about the Office of Social Equity can be found on their website. Complaints or reports involving alleged violations of Title IX should be reported to the university's Title IX Coordinator (Office of Social Equity) and Department of Public Safety. The Office of Human Resources (610-683-1353), in conjunction with the appropriate area manager, will handle other complaints of conflict in the workplace. All complaints will be handled to ensure compliance with University policies, applicable laws and the appropriate collective bargaining agreements.
