Delivering Successful Employee Evaluations
In order to successfully deliver an EPE, raters should do the following:
- Acquire knowledge of employee job and performance
- Develop/discuss expectations
- Provide feedback/recognition
- Identify training needs
- Coordinate with reviewing officer
- Prepare and discuss rating
An important part of the EPE is the employee's training and development plan. In order to develop a successful training plan, the following steps are recommended:
- Integrate it with the Employee Performance Evaluation
- Be positive
- Encourage personal growth
- Identify new opportunities
- Recognize fear of change
- Provide training appropriate to learning
- Permit incremental learning
Once completed by the supervisor/manager, the EPE is reviewed by the reviewing officer. The role of the reviewing officer is as follows:
- Discuss standards/performance with the supervisor before and during rating cycle
- Hold supervisor accountable for successfully performing management duties
- Ensure the consistent application of standards
- Discuss/investigate employee appeals
