President

The president of Kutztown University is the chief executive officer of the university. As such, he is usually the final step in any policy approval and/or recommendation process that begins in the Shared Governance System at KU.

The president of the university is designated by Act 188 as the chief executive officer of the institution with 16 specific powers and duties. The president is ultimately accountable for management and leadership decisions; he practices a management style in which authority is delegated to the appropriate administrative vice president. While the president maintains authority and accountability for the fiscal health of the institution, he holds the vice presidents accountable for budgetary development and decisions. The president also uses the Shared Governance System for policy development such as establishing parking fees through the Administrative Council, empowering the Strategic Planning and Resource Committee to update the strategic plan.

The President is assisted by the following members of the President's Cabinet:

  • Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Vice President for Equity, Compliance and Liaison for Legal Affairs
  • Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
  • Vice President for Finance and Facilities
  • Vice President for University Relations and Athletics
  • Executive Director, Kutztown University Foundation

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors has policies related to the duties, responsibilities, benefits, and evaluation of the president and other officers of the administration. Each administrative division develops an annual report that identifies strengths, weaknesses, and accomplishments of the previous year, targets and projects for the next academic year, and a plan for continuous evaluation of the division's programs and activities.

There are four colleges (Business, Education, Liberal Arts & Science, and Visual & Performing Arts). Each of the four colleges is headed by a dean, who holds ultimate responsibility for all academic decisions for his/her college. The deans are also responsible for the budgets of their colleges.
