KU Campus Parking FAQs


  • As a resident student, am I allowed to park in any spots in the C lots?

    There are spaces with signs marked specifically for university officials only such as 24/7 reserved parking which is not available to students with a Resident (C) parking permit to park in. If you need to drop off items at your residence hall, you may park in the 20 minute spots with your flashers on. Only white-lined spaces with no posted signage are available to resident students.

  • How do I know where to park with a valid permit?

    At the entrance to each parking lot there are signs posted with lot designations, acceptable permits, and enforcement hours. Spaces are painted white for student parking, yellow for faculty/staff parking, and green for visitor parking. To familiarize yourself with parking, visit our campus map. Additionally, the lots in which you are eligible to park are listed on the parking permit you received when you registered your vehicle.

  • I am a commuter student who entered the fall semester with less than 32 completed credits. Where do I park?

    Commuter students in this classification will be assigned an X decal and must park their vehicles in white-lined spaces in the A4, D3, E1 or E2 lots only, and the decal must be displayed on the vehicle.

  • I am a commuter upperclassman who entered the fall semester with more than 32 completed credits. Where do I park?

    Commuter students in this classification will be assigned a C decal and must park their vehicles in white-lined spaces in A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, D3, E1, E2, F6 lots only, and the decal must be displayed on the vehicle.

  • I am a resident student with 18 or more credits entering the fall semester. Where do I park?

    Your registered vehicle must be parked in one of the lots assigned to you. You are not permitted to park on the north side of campus (north of Main Street) Monday through Friday between 7:00AM- 4:30PM. Exceptions must be requested through and approved by KU Business Services. All resident vehicles (except for Honors residents) will be assigned to the C lots on the south side of campus, near the residence halls and may park in white-lined spaces only.

  • I am a resident student with less than 18 credits entering the fall semester. Where do I park?

    Resident students with less than 18 credits completed entering the fall semester of a given academic year will be issued an F decal. Vehicles with F decals must be parked in lots C5, B3, B2, monitiored 24/7/365. Open Parking does NOT apply to F decals. EXCEPTION: To load and unload a vehicle near a residence hall, a vehicle sporting an F decal is permitted to park in white-lined spaces on South Campus for periods of no longer than 20 minutes as long as the vehicle’s hazard lights are on.

  • I only take evening classes. Do I need to purchase a permit?

    If you will not park on campus between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM, you do not need to purchase a decal. However, if you have any business on campus during that time frame, you will need to display a permit.

  • If a friend comes to visit me, do they need a parking pass?

    It depends. If your guest arrives on campus after 4:30 PM and leaves before 7:00 AM the next morning, they do not need a pass. However, if they are staying longer or outside those hours, they will need to obtain a pass from Vehicle Registration & Permits, located in 107 Academic Forum, during normal business hours. If they arrive after hours, they must visit the Public Safety Communications Center located in Old Main 15 to obtain a visitor's parking permit.

  • If I am considered a Resident Freshman and am assigned to park in lots C5, B3, B2 for 24 hours a day, how do I load my vehicle to go home?

    If you have large items to place in your vehicle or to unload from your vehicle, you may park in a white-lined space near your residence hall with your flashers (hazard lights) on. You will be permitted 15 minutes to load or unload your vehicle. If you receive a parking ticket while loading or unloading and did not follow these instructions, you will be responsible for the payment of the ticket. 

  • What do I need to do to be able to legally park my vehicle on campus?

    All vehicles parked on campus between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday must be registered with Transportation Services and display a valid parking decal. (EXCEPTIONS: B1 and F3 lots are enforced 24/7/365. A1 meters are enforced 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM.)

  • When are permits required? Do I need one over summer and during breaks?

    At Kutztown University, all student, faculty, and staff vehicles parked on campus must be registered and display a permit from 7:30AM to 4:30PM, Monday through Friday, with the following exceptions. Metered spaces do not require permits but must be paid from 7:00AM to 7:00PM, Monday through Friday. Lots B1 and F3 are enforced 24 hours per day, every day.

    During summer break and between semesters, vehicles must be parked in a legal parking space. Permits are not required for student lots during these times but permit requirements will be enforced when classes are in session. All rules and regulations other than "permit required" are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Where can students park?

    Students may park in white line spaces only in the lots they are assigned when they register their vehicle. Lot assignments are shown on the parking permit, campus map and chart below:

    *Additional registered vehicles will incur a charge of $50 (semester) or $75 (annual).  These vehicles may only park in lot A4.

    Replacement vehicles will be issued a decal for the original lot assignment.  The original vehicle decal will be deactivated in the T2 parking permit system at that time.

    All parking assignments are based upon credits earned entering the fall semester.

  • Do I need to pay for a permit for a second vehicle which I will drive to campus from time-to-time?

    Yes.  As of Fall 2023, any additional vehicles that you will park on campus must be registered and display a valid parking permit.  These permits will incur the same charge as the first permit - $50 for a semester and $75 for the academic year. 

    Students who are campus or Honors building residents may register additional vehicles to park on campus at the same cost.  Those additional vehicles will only be permitted to park in lot A4.  All other classifications of students may register additional vehicles at the same cost and will receive another permit of their same permit type.

    If you are a student, log into your MyKU account and, under Vehicle Services, add the vehicle to your account. Then bring your vehicle registration and photo ID to Vehicle Registration & Permits in 107 Academic Forum to secure either a permanent permit.  You will be issued a decal with the same lot assignment as your original decal.

    Permits may not be transferred between vehicles. 

  • How do I file a parking ticket appeal?

  • How much are parking permits and when will they expire?

    The cost for all student parking permits is $50.00 for one semester and $75 for an academic year. Faculty and staff permits are free-of-charge. Parking permit purchases are nonrefundable.

  • How much are parking tickets?

    Parking tickets range in cost from $10-$150, depending on the violation. Most tickets are $20.

  • My vehicle is disabled/totaled and I have a new one. How do I register this replacement vehicle?

    Decals are not transferable from one vehicle to another. But good news! You can obtain another permit for your replacement vehicle. 

    Simply bring the registration for this replacement vehicle and your photo ID to Vehicle Registration & Permits to pick up your new permit. You will be given the same permit as your original lot assignment. 
    There will NOT be a charge to replace a permit; however, the original permit will be deactivated since that vehicle will no longer be in use.  

  • My vehicle is parked on campus and it has broken down. What do I do?

    If your vehicle won’t start or can’t be driven but is parked on campus, notify Public Safety within 30 minutes and obtain a Disabled Vehicle placard from the Communications Center (15 Old Main) to place on the vehicle. This service is available 24/7.

  • The University is closed/It's semester break. What are the parking rules?

    During these times, vehicles must be parked in a legal parking space. Permits are not required for student lots during these times but permit requirements will be enforced when classes are in session. All rules and regulations other than "permit required" are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • What happens if I ignore tickets?

    If you have three parking tickets that remain unpaid for more than seven days, you are considered a scofflaw. Public Safety may place an immobilizing device (boot) on your vehicle and charge you a $50 boot removal fee. Ignore the tickets six times, and you will receive a boot every time you are parked in violation of the motor vehicle regulations. Ten times? You will lose your parking privileges for the entire academic year.

    If you receive two boots in the course of one academic year, you will lose your parking privilege for the academic year or a six (6) month period, whichever is greater.

  • What hours are parking meters enforced?

    General parking regulations are enforced Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:30PM. The meters in A1 are enforced from 7:00AM - 7:00PM. Some lots, such as B1 and F3, are always enforced. And so are reserved spots such as 24-hour reserved, 30 minute parking, staff parking only, etc.

  • When are parking meters enforced?

    From 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, parking meters are fully enforced. Parking at meters is limited to one hour. After one hour, the vehicle must be moved from the parking space.

    The meters can be fed with nickels (7 minutes), dimes (15 minutes) or quarters (37½ minutes).

    If a meter is inoperable, vehicles cannot be parked in the space. Doing so will result in a $10 parking ticket.

  • Where can I pay my parking tickets?

    If you are a student, you can pay your parking ticket online through your MyKU account or in person at the Office of Student Accounts (cash or check only).

    Payment for parking tickets earned by faculty, staff, and visitors, with the remittance, can be mailed to the Office of Student Accounts or paid at the Office of Student Accounts (cash or check).

    Checks mailed in must include the complete name and address of the operator, the ticket number, plus the license plate number and state of the ticketed vehicle.

  • Why am I getting ticketed after 4:30 PM?

    Specific lots are monitored and ticketed after 4:30 pm. In lots B1 and F3, vehicles without an employee parking permit may be ticketed 24/7/365. Lot A1, a metered lot, is enforced from 7:00AM-7:00PM. Since these spaces are intended for visitors to the KU Campus Shop, the Bear’s Den, or other quick response locations, there is a 60-minute time limit to park in those spaces. Once your 60 minutes have elapsed, you must move your vehicle to a different lot or leave the campus.

    Also, vehicles displaying an F permit are relegated to lot C5, B3 and B2 and are monitored 24/7/365.
    Vehicles displaying an R permit are relegated to lots C1-C5 and are monitored 24/7/365.
