Secondary Education Minor

Exploring social justice in secondary classrooms.

The Secondary Education minor was developed for students who are interested in the education of grades 7-12, but are not seeking a teaching certificate. This 18-credit program has an emphasis on social justice, which applies to many other areas of study and will give students an insight into the challenges that underserved schools face. 

Required Courses: 12 credits

  • EDU 100 Perspectives on American Education         
  • EDU 120 Hip Hop and Multicultural Education
  • EDU 150 Meeting Instruction Needs of English Language Learners
  • EDU 326 Introduction to Middle-Level Education

Choose 6 credits from the following courses:

  • SPA 110 Spanish for Educators
  • SPU 201 Cognitive Development of Diverse Learners in a Standards Aligned System
  • ELU 221 Literature for Upper Elementary and Middle-Level Learners 
  • ITC 321 Instructional Technology in Education
