Disability Services Office (DSO)
Welcome to the Disability Services Office (DSO).
The Disability Services Office, located in room 215 of the Stratton Administration Center, assists the university in providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities who are members of the university community (students and employees) and who utilize the university facilities (guests and visitors). We are dedicated to ensuring that Kutztown University is as accessible and inclusive as possible, working with campus and community members on a regular basis to provide the best possible experience for all who step foot on campus. For information about the events that we host throughout the academic year, please make sure to follow us on social media!
Exciting News: Welcome to Accommodate!
The Disability Services Office is excited to announce that our new process for requesting accommodations, sending your accommodation letters, and more is now live and ready for use! Returning students, please see more information on the changes in process on the Student Accommodations page; faculty will receive updates and the ability to access their accounts in the upcoming weeks of June and July 2024!
Sending Accommodation Letters Fall 2024
Students may begin sending copies of their Accommodation Letter to assigned fall course professors starting Monday, August 19th at 8:00 am.
-
- Log into your Student Accommodate Portal. You will need to use your KU username and password to access your Student Accommodate Portal.
- Once you are logged into Accommodate, select “Accommodation” from the left-side menu.
- Next, select “Semester Request” from the drop-down menu.
- Next, click “Add New” and then select the semester.
- Then, select “Review the Renewal” to select which accommodations you want to utilize in each specific course.
Once a semester request is submitted, a copy of your letter will be sent to your faculty to review via their Faculty Accommodate Portal.
Please Note: If you add a new class after submitting a semester request, you will need to submit a new request in order for letters to be sent to your new faculty.
After you receive the confirmation email that your letters were sent to your professors, you need to arrange a time to talk with your professors about how your accommodations will be implemented in each of their courses. Please be aware that you may not be able to utilize your accommodations, until you complete this step and discuss your accommodation needs with your professor.
Discussions about your accommodations can take place in-person, through Zoom or another online platform, or via phone or email. There is no need to disclose the nature of your disability to your professors, but be prepared to discuss the following:
- What are your accommodations?
- What are your learning needs? How can your professor help you?
- What are your strengths and areas of weakness?
- What learning strategies helped you most in the past?

Information for Incoming Students:
The staff in the Disability Services Office is excited to meet any incoming students at Accepted Student Day events and both freshman and transfer student orientations! While we are happy to answer any questions regarding accommodations and check on the status of your request through our office, we will not be accepting documentation at these events. The Disability Services Office is open during these times (except during Saturday events) and we would be happy to take your documentation in the office when you are on campus. If you know that you will be on campus for an event and would like to schedule a meeting with our office for that day, please send us an email and we would be happy to see you if our schedules allow.
Once you have paid your Advanced Registration Deposit (ARD) and receive log-in information for your KU email account, you will be able to submit documentation to begin the process of requesting accommodations through our office! Please visit the Student Accommodations page for more information and to submit an Accommodation Request Form or supporting documentation.
