Payment Plans

Kutztown University is pleased to offer payment plans to help make paying for college easier and more affordable.

The Payment Dashboard is where students & parents (if the student creates access for them) will make payments, purchase Bear Bucks & Flex Dollars, pay parking tickets, view bill/statements, set up, monitor and pay payment plans, save payment methods, elect text message notifications and more!

CURRENT NEWS (April 2024):

Payment plan how to's

This is a great tool for estimating how much you may need a payment plan to cover.  This estimating tool can help with a plan amount while you await a bill OR even help with how much one may want to take an additional loan for.  Estimating calculation sheet

  • How much does a payment plan cost?

A payment plan costs only $35 a plan!

This fee will be added to your first payment and is retained by the payment plan provider - you will see one payment of $35 to CASHNet/Transact and one payment for the first installment to Kutztown University.

  • Can the plan be set up for automatic payments or do I have to remember to pay each payment?

Automatic payments make it easy to avoid late fees and ensure your payments are paid on time!  Remember E-checks are the most cost effective way to set up a payment plan because credit cards do assess an additional 2.85% non-refundable processing fee.

You do not HAVE to utilize automatic payments, but it is highly encouraged to avoid late fees from the plan provider and from Kutztown University.

To avoid automatic payments, uncheck the box prior to finalizing the plan.

  • Enrolling in a Payment Plan

Enrolling in a Plan is easy!

    1. Go to MyKU > KU Financial Account tile > Payment Dashboard > Payment Plans
    2. Choose the plan if multiple options are shown
    3. Enter the amount you need the plan for
    4. Agree to the terms, enter your initials (not name).
    5. Make the payment of the first installment amount and the fee of $35.

NOTE: KU does not update plans based on the balance due in MyKU or adjust plans based on financial aid additions.  The plan will remain as you set up unless you log in and adjust the balance.

If you see that you are not eligible for the payment plan, this is because of a prior default, or defaults, on a payment plan.  There are many reasons for this.  You may have had a plan and never paid the payments on it after setting it up, you may have received aid and forgotten to cancel the plan and thus never finished the payments, or you may have had too many returned payments.  You may email our office and ask for a review of your account to see if we can allow an exception for the plan to be used.  A review will either determine you may try using the plan again, or you have had just too many defaults and the plan is no longer a valid payment option.

  • Adjusting / Cancelling a Payment Plan

Adjusting a Plan Amount is easy and also the way you cancel the plan if no longer needed.

    1. Adjusting a plan if the amount is no longer accurate:
      1. Identify the amount you need left to pay KU
      2. Navigate to: MyKU > KU Financial Account tile > Payment Dashboard > Payment Plans
      3. Click on the payment plan - the side bar will open
      4. Next to Payment Schedule - click Edit Amount
      5. Enter the remaining amount you need in the plan
      6. Select Update Plan - remaining payments will be adjusted
    2. Cancelling a plan if no longer needed:
      1. The adjust steps above should be followed, but instead enter just 1.00 as your remaining balance due as the plan won't allow you to fully cancel or enter 0.00.
  • Payment Plan Assistance

If you need assistance with the payment plan, please contact the payment plan provider:

    1-877-821-0625

  • Can a parent set up a payment plan?

Yes!  They can do so by logging into the Payment Dashboard as the student (listed above), or as a payer, if the student set them up for their own access.

Students can set a parent up easily right in the Payment Dashboard > My Account > Assign a Payer

    1. Payer Invitation.
    2. Send a payer invitation
    3. Add the rest of the information.
    4. Submit.
    5. The parent will get an email with their special link and they can save the link for future access (it is listed above as well).

NOTE: The payment plan will only be visible under the account it was set up under.  If the account was created under the students access, then a payer won't see it or make payments on it.  Similarly, if a payer set up the plan, the student will not see it to make payments.

  • How do I make an extra payment towards the plan before my due date?

Making payments in advance is just fine and acceptable, just as paying off the plan early is.

When you log into MyKU > KU Financial Account tile > Payment Dashboard - click on the option that says "make a payment"

You will have the option to edit the amount due and proceed with payment.

Payment Plan commonly asked questions
    • Are payment plans for the full academic year or by semester?

Payment Plans are set up by the semester; maximum payments per semester is 6 if you sign up early.  With the exception of the late plans, the 6 payment plans do not overlap and allow for year round plans.

Session plans are smaller due to the shortened nature of the session.

    • How much should I set my payment plan up for?

If you are setting your payment plan up before the tuition rates are known for the semester or before the bill is prepared, you will need to review the costs online and subtract your awarded/pending aid. We have an estimating tool worksheet online to help you!

Awarded aid is for the full academic year, so this should be cut in half.  Some loans have origination fees (Stafford loans of 1.06%, Parent PLUS loans of 4.2% ).  This means that these fees are withheld by the provider/lender prior to release to KU.  A Stafford loan of 2,750.00 would disburse to KU as 2,722.00, for example.

Remember you can adjust the plan easily once the actual bill is prepared or the final costs are known.  There is no fee to adjust a plan or even cancel it.

If you are having trouble calculating the amount needed, please email or call us today!  We are happy to help!

    • When and how will my balance change in MyKU from setting up a payment plan?

      Legacy MyKU:

Your balance in MyKU will be reduced by the payment plan payment you have made to the payment plan site (minus the payment plan fee retained by the plan provider).  This payment posts right into MyKU as a payment plan payment. Only the payments processed so far will appear to reduce your balance due.

Payments that are due later - will not reduce the balance.

The bill/statements that are prepared on the Payment Dashboard (statements) have a section that will show the payment plan so that you can see if the plan amount is enough or if you need to reduce or increase it.  These bills are maroon and gold.  If you locate a bill that is blue online in MyKU - that will not show you all of the information.  We highly encourage always looking at the bills in the Payment Dashboard.

Another way to see if the plan, is sufficient to hold classes, you will see a note in the KU Tasks tile.  Log into MyKU > KU Tasks.  Click on the green line, the Positive Indicator area.

      • If the plan is enough to cover the bill, along with the aid you have pending, then you will see a Classes Safe notation for the semester or session.  This will secure your class schedule and avoid a late fee.
      • If the plan is not enough to cover the bill along with the aid you have pending, then you will see a Pending Funds notation for the semester or session.  This will not secure a schedule or avoid a late fee, it is just a note on the account.

NEW MyKU wil have Hold Codes to see if you are set up with a plan and if its sufficient to cover the bill or insufficient.  This section will be updated as we move forward with the new system and NEW Payment Dashboard.

    • How will I know my Classes are safe from setting up my payment plan?

Legacy MyKU > KU Tasks > click on the Green bar (Positive Indicators).  If you see a Classes Safe - you are good to go!  If you see Pending Funds, the plan is not enough, this is just a note on the account.

New MyKU will also have  hold code to show Payment Plan is set up and sufficient or insufficient for the balance due.

    • Is there a payment plan for International Students?

International students have several ways to make payments and the options are dependent on the method you are using.

US funding sources - bank account or credit card allows you to use the payment plan just the same as our domestic students.

Foreign credit cards - you may use the payment plan just the same as our domestic students, but the processing fee for a foreign credit card is higher.

Foreign currency - you may use the payment plan just the same as our domestic students, but you will select Flywire as your payment method. Click here for more information about Flywire.

**Repeated default on payment plans will result in the removal of payment plan option and prohibit access to the plan**
