Is the program accredited?
The Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs at Kutztown University are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Accreditation of a baccalaureate or master’s social work program by the Council on Social Work Education’ Commission on Accreditation indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer-review process. An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals and the Commission on Accreditation has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all sections of the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.

How long will it take to complete the entire program?
A Bachelor of Social Work degree may be completed in as little as four years. If you have transfer credits from a community college or other university the time may be shorter.

How many credits are needed to complete the program?
A total of 120 credits are needed to complete the program, including a minimum of 60 program specific credits.

How much is the tuition?

How do I transfer into the program?

If I complete the BSW program is there a possibility of advanced placement into the MSW program?
Current holders of a BSW from a CSWE accredited program may qualify for admittance into the Advanced Standing Program.

Is there a minor in Social Work available?
Yes. A minor in Social Work is designed to assist students majoring in Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, Education, Professional Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology and/or those who are embarking on a career as a helping professional.
There is an 18 S.H. requirement for the completion of the minor. For more information visit: Social Work Minor.

What courses are required to complete a Bachelor of Social Work degree?
Students are urged to discuss specific requirements and course sequencing with their advisor. Please be sure to contact your advisor for an appointment should you have specific questions or concerns.

Are there any scholarships or awards available?

Is there a program to assist with textbook costs?
The Department of Social Work at Kutztown University has developed a Sustainable Lending Library that facilitates access to educational materials/resources throughout bachelor of social work students’ educational career. The library operates through the department and provides a lending service of essential social work specific educational materials to Social Work majors.

Is there any Military Funding or Aid available?

Is there tuition assistance available for current or former members of the foster care system?
Kutztown University has partnered with ChildPromise, Inc. to present a one-of-a-kind support program for students who are current or former members of the foster care system. To show dedication to successful students in foster care, PROFS provides college access programs, such as college prep and financial knowledge workshops, for high school students and connects Kutztown University students to the campus resources that will help them succeed.
Students who complete the PROFS program are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship award and free housing at the end of each semester. For more information visit the PROF Program webpage.

Field Internships are an integral part of the BSW and MSW programs. Selection of an internship site is facilitated by the Social Work department and FBI, criminal, and child abuse clearances are generally required.
