Biographical Statement:

Dr. Mary Rita Weller, Assistant Professor, teaches full-time at Kutztown University's Department of Social Work. She has over 20-years clinical experience working primarily with individuals that have experienced trauma, as well as supporting sexual minorities and individuals with disabilities. Dr. Weller holds undergraduate degrees in sociology and Spanish from the State University of New York, Oneonta. She received her Master of Social Work from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in education with a concentration in human sexuality from Widener University in Chester, PA. She is licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in social work.

Research Interests:

Her area of clinical and research expertise is in individuals with disabilities and sexual minorities such as gay, lesbian, transgender, etc. and issues around poverty. She has published several articles and book chapters related to poverty, women's issues, disabilities, relationship building, supporting sexual minorities, and case management.      

Professional Development:

Dr. Weller maintains professional memberships with the National Association of Social Workers, Society for Social Work, Research, Council on Social Work Education, American Association of Sexologists, Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, Pennsylvania Association of Undergraduate Social Work Education, Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, Phi Alpha Honor Society, and National Association of Case Managers. Additionally, Dr. Weller is on the Board of Directors, as well as Program Committee Chair, for Service Access and Management, Inc. of Reading, PA.
