KUR Wins Best On-Air Pledge Drive at 2023 Annual Broadcasting Awards
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University Radio (KUR) won Best On-Air Pledge Drive at the 83rd Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference that took place Feb. 24-25, in New York City. KUR was nominated for seven awards in different categories for the second consecutive year. The conference awards colleges and universities for exceptional programming and student radio stations on the national level.
Student and vice president of KUR, Abby Regensburger, won the Best On-Air Pledge Drive Award for her Planned Parenthood fundraiser broadcast. Students and all KUR nominees (James Zipprodt, Linda Zuniga, Brandon Carnegie, Mitchell Smedley, Jack Heym, Kaylee Brulliea, Jake McDaniel and Aliza Leibowitz) were direct runner-ups for their nomination categories. Those included Best Specialty Show (non-music), Best Community Outreach Event, Best Spot News Interview, Best Sports Talk Program and Best Program Director.
KUR offers an array of different types of programming. During the daytime, listeners are likely to hear a laid-back vibe of smooth pop, R&B and jazz vocals and light alternative. Student, faculty and KU's specialty shows are featured during the afternoons and evenings that encompass a wide variety of styles from rock to rap to blues to talk programming.
