Gabby Rivera to Present March 30 at Kutztown University as Keynote Speaker for Women’s History Month

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University’s Women’s Center, in partnership with the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program and sponsored by the Dr. Constance P. Dent and Dr. Ann T. Gundry Distinguished Speaker Series, will feature Gabby Rivera as the keynote speaker for this year’s Women’s History Month celebration. The event will take place 6 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 218 McFarland Student Union. Rivera, a prominent LGBTQ youth advocate and writer known for her representation of queer and trans people of color (QTPOC), will discuss her experiences in these roles during her presentation.

Rivera is Bronx-born queer Latinx who is dedicated to empowering people and improving marginalized communities across the nation. She has made major waves for her Marvel series starring America Chaves, a queer, Latinx superhero. Rivera is also author to a popular and award-winning book, “Juliet Takes a Breath,” and will host a book signing following her event. She will speak on her experience as a Queer Latinx author, including her struggles and triumphs, as well as the “importance of prioritizing joy in QTPOC communities.”

The KU Women’s Center is also hosting a biweekly book club at the LGBTQ+ Resource Center for Rivera’s book, which meets 4 p.m., every other Friday, Boxwood House, which will conclude April 28.
