KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Congratulations to Amanda Garcia, assistant director, McFarland Student Union Operations, Greek Life and Commuter Student Services, on being named Kutztown University Employee of the Month for May 2023.

Garcia’s nomination from Donna Ruch, university registered nurse, reads:

“As a University Nurse at KU Health and Wellness Services, I contacted and first met Amanda in May of 2022 in the hopes of our working together, through outreach and educational programs, to encourage KU students (especially our KU commuters and off-campus students) to adopt a lifelong commitment to wellness and healthy living. From our very first conversation, Amanda was extremely receptive and eager to build this relationship with me, which of course put me at ease and set the tone for what was to come.

Since May of 2022, Amanda and I have collaborated on numerous programs. She consistently invites and welcomes KU students, staff and faculty to join us in both developing and participating in these programs. By helping all team members brainstorm ideas and problem solve, Amanda builds a sense of trust between departments – which is valuable beyond measure. She encourages information sharing framed around shared objectives and a common goal.

When people see that they are working toward a common goal, they’re more likely to work together to achieve it. A collaborative workforce can look beyond personal agendas and competition between departments and recognize that each person and department have a unique role to play in meeting the common goal. When everyone is unanimously focused on the shared goal, a sense of camaraderie develops and people begin to see that they are “all in this together.”

That about sums it up – Amanda Garcia – herself a KU alum; is a valued KU leader and mentor who truly exemplifies the “It’s Good to Be Golden” mantra – who always has a smile on her face and always, always puts our students first. It’s been my pleasure to learn from her and work with her. I can’t wait to see what happens next!”

Nominations are collected from students, faculty and staff, and the Employee of the Month is selected by the Human Resources Advisory Council.
