Drezek to Serve as KU's Interim Chief of Police
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – David Drezek will serve as interim Chief of Police at Kutztown University, effective Jan. 14. Drezek, KU’s Deputy Chief of Police, has been with the university since 2018.
Drezek will assume the role for Chief John Dillon, who announced his retirement from Kutztown University after 32 years, 11 as Chief of Police. Dillon’s final day at the university will be Friday, Jan. 13.
“John has provided the university with sound leadership and dedication,” said Jesus Peña, vice president for Equity, Compliance and Liaison for Legal Affairs. “I thank John for his many years of service to KU and wish him all the best in his retirement. I look forward to working with David and am confident he will provide great leadership during this transition.”
Drezek has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience, including four at Kutztown University as Deputy Chief.
“Kutztown University is a special place and I am grateful for the opportunity given to me,” Drezek said. “I look forward to building even stronger relationships with the campus community.”
Prior to KU, Drezek served the Town of North Providence, Rhode Island, in numerous law enforcement roles over his 21.5-year career. His experience included assignments in Investigative Unit, Uniform Patrol and Support Services with his partner K9 Ikarus. He retired holding the rank of Detective Lieutenant, where he earned a high level of loyalty from staff. Prior to his appointment at KU in 2018, Drezek also served as a Lieutenant for the Worcester State University Police Department, Massachusetts, during which he managed the day-to-day operations of the Second Watch Division.
Drezek holds a bachelor’s and is completing his master's degree in criminal justice studies from Roger Williams University. He is a graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command #471, FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Series and the Penn State POLEX Executive Development Program. Drezek is an ALICE Instructor and holds multiple FEMA certifications. He is deeply committed to the advancement of the policing profession and his professional memberships include the Berks County Police Chiefs Association, International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He has served Kutztown University on multiple committees.
Drezek is a resident of Blandon, Pa. He is the proud father of Madison and Marissa Drezek, who both attend the University of Rhode Island. When not serving Kutztown University, he enjoys working out, attending church, gardening, reading, his Ford Mustang GT and spending time with his family dog Phoebe, an eight-year-old Shih Tzu.
The university will conduct a national search for a Chief of Police.
