KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Reading High School senior Daniela Tineo-Gomez was awarded Kutztown University's Enlightened Leaders Scholarship Thursday, March 24.

Tineo-Gomez has been accepted into KU's general business program with an interest in finance and entrepreneurship for fall 2022. She is currently ranked at the top of her class and is a member of KU's Grant Access Project (GAP), a program for high school students that strives to expose high school student to college opportunities and experiences.

"I am so grateful for this scholarship and this opportunity; I can't even describe it,” said Tineo-Gomez. "My parents and I came here from Dominican Republic when I was really young. It was a challenge to be in a new country and to learn a new language, but my parents always instilled in me how important education is and how far it can take you in life."

"We are thrilled to welcome Daniela to KU," said Dr. Warren Hilton, vice president for enrollment and student affairs at Kutztown University. "A student of her caliber will make a strong impact on campus, and we are delighted that she's now a Golden Bear."

Established by an anonymous donor, the Enlightened Leaders Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, room and board, fees and incidental academic expenses. The recipient must be a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in the College of Business, maintain a GPA of 3.0 and donate a minimum of 20 hours of advisor approved community service with disadvantaged/special needs children.

"Private philanthropy is essential to today's students," said Alex Ogeka, executive director of the Kutztown University Foundation. "Donor supported scholarships like this are often the catalyst that opens the doors for prospective students, making their dreams of higher education a reality."
