KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University, in conjunction with the Kutztown University Foundation (KUF), offers free online courses for all alumni of the university. Registration for the 2022 spring semester alumni class is now open.

This spring's class is Gardening for Food and Fun, Dr. Christopher F. Sacchi, biology.

The class is 100% online and will appear on your transcript; however, they may not be used toward a degree program at Kutztown University. Classes are graded on a Pass/Not Pass basis. These classes do not count toward any Act 48 credits.

Spring 2022 classes begin the week of Jan. 24, 2022.

This alumni course is designed to introduce students of all levels of gardening experience with an overview of topics related to the creation and enjoyment of gardens, both vegetable and ornamental, in the space they have available to them. Topics will include practical aspects of selecting plant types for a garden, species and varieties, to match the garden location and the student's culinary interests or preferences for ornamental plants. Aspects of botany, ecology, soil health and ways to tackle weeds and insect pests will be included in the course. A practical and entertaining gardening class with aspects of botanical and ecological science is called for in light of a dramatic increase in interest in gardening during the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 1.8 million new gardeners joining the ranks of more experienced gardeners in the past two years.
