Professor Selected to Lead Evaluation of Early Math Literacy in Teacher Preparation Programs

Kutztown University’s Dr. Michele White, associate professor of Elementary, Middle Level, Library and Technologies Education, alongside Dr. Karise Mace ’22 of Kutztown Area School District have been selected as two of 40 experts from across the country to participate in a national convening, known as Counting Connections, on early math literacy and learning Oct. 8-10 in Atlanta. The convening is sponsored by the Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity (Branch Ed). Read more.

Kutztown University and KU's LGBTQ+ Resource Center is again a sponsor for the 11th annual LGBTQ+ Night at the Reading Fightin' Phils, 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, FirstEnergy Stadium, Reading, Pa. Free tickets available from Jerry Schearer (109 Stratton) or at Boxwood House. You may get tickets for yourself and family and friends. Show your KU spirit by wearing KU gear. We will have a bus for students and if there is extra room, we will be glad to also provide space for faculty and staff.

Job Opening: APSCUF-KU Office Manager

Office Manager, Association of State College and University Faculties (APSCUF, the collective bargaining agent) at Kutztown University. Duties: manage the APSCUF/Kutztown University office on behalf of 450+ faculty and athletic coaches members; coordinate with state APSCUF headquarters, coordinate all correspondence activities with various constituencies, maintain office file system, schedule and make arrangements for a variety of meetings, help organize faculty and coaches, assist with and participate in increasing APSCUF membership and assist with and any other general office manager tasks and organizational needs as required.
Required: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and at least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in a union setting; ability to deal appropriately with confidential information. Competency in Microsoft Office including SharePoint and Google Apps, as well as an understanding of data bases.
Preferred: Experience with labor union environment; experience as an office manager; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; self-motivated, flexible individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
This is a nine-month full-time, summer half-time position with year-long full benefits, beginning as soon as possible. Starting salary is $31,319. Liberal benefits and vacation package included. Writing Center Opens Tuesday, Sept. 3

Please have your students reach out to the KU Writing Center (UWC) for writing help and to schedule a writing session concerning papers for any subject/discipline. Also, please include the "For Students" information below in your syllabi. We have two methods of writing tutoring available: in-person and online sessions. In-person hours at 100C Rohrbach are 2-6 p.m. Sunday, 2-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Online hours are 2-6 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, noon to 4 p.m. Friday. Please direct any questions to pytleski@kutztown.edu.
For Faculty: Please use the Google form (or email me) to let us know if you would like an in-person or Zoom information session about the UWC or any in-class writing information sessions (the writing process, citations, academic stress, etc.). Also, please let your students know that they can choose to have you emailed after coming to the UWC for help with work from your class.

Women's Soccer Nationally Ranked in Preseason Poll

Golden Bear women's soccer will begin the 2024 season in the national rankings as the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll had KU 25th in Division II. KU is one of three teams from the conference nationally ranked, joining Atlantic Region Champion Gannon, who was tabbed fifth, and PSAC champion West Chester, who appeared 11th. Kutztown opens its slate at home, hosting 2023 NCAA regional-qualifier Concord, noon Thursday, Sept. 5, Keystone Field. KU will then take on No. 20 Charleston 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, Keystone Field.
