KU, Reading School District Partner to Provide Social Work Support
Kutztown University and Reading School District (RSD) have strengthened their partnership to provide qualified social workers to the local and regional community. This collaboration aims to strengthen professional development and establish a comprehensive social work program to better serve RSD’s students and families.

Frederick Douglass Institute Celebrates Black History Month
Happy Black History Month from the Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI). As part of the Multicultural Center (MCC)'s Ujima Conference Day of Service, FDI honors and celebrates Black literature, media, art, film and music 9-11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 20, MCC Unity Room. We focus on the historical and contemporary contributions of African Americans, racial trauma and healing, self-actualization and joy. Black literacies, encompassing all forms of texts, offer invaluable insights and diverse perspectives on societal issues, enriching college experiences for students and fostering an affirming campus culture for faculty, staff, students and administration. The event is a rolling event; guests can drop by at any time. Expect music, networking, refreshments and engaging hands-on activities. Participants will also receive valuable resources related to wellness and can learn more about and sign up for our upcoming exciting off-campus field experiences. Scholastic Art Awards in Miller Gallery
Kutztown University hosts the 2024 Scholastic Art Awards for creative teens in grades 7-12 from Berks, Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties through Sunday, March 3, Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery, Sharadin Arts Building (free and open to the public). Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 4 p.m. Saturday; 2-4 p.m. Sunday. This is the longest-running (101 years), most prestigious and competitive art awards program in the country. This year, we had 662 submissions of artwork from 396 students from 74 schools. Artwork is juried by local professional artists and winners are on view in the Miller Gallery. Local winners go on to compete at the next level with winners from across the country and are celebrated in New York City.

Reflections of Inspiration: Perspectives on Humanity, Love and Liberation
As part of Connectivity Live (PASSHE DEI Office), we are hosting a virtual panel session noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, on "Reflections of Inspiration: Perspectives on Humanity, Love and Liberation" to celebrate Black History Month. We hope you can join us. Our three panelists include a student and two faculty members from across PASSHE: Kennedy Holt (Shippensburg), Dr. Akita Donald (Slippery Rock) and Dr. Daris McInnis (West Chester). Each panelist will share their own stories of how their family, mentors and influential thought leaders have helped and shaped them into who and where they are today. EDD candidate, Kim Kneller, will present and defend her dissertation titled, "Misappropriating Self-Care: A mixed-methods analysis of the burnout experiences of teachers who identify as women," 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 105 Beekey. All are welcome to attend. Her dissertation committee chair is Dr. Helen Hamlet. Her committee members include Dr. Mark Wolfmeyer and Mrs. Beth Guarriello.

Jardine Captures PSAC Title in Pole Vault
Graduate pole vaulter Joe Jardine (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) captured the conference crown in the pole vault as the Kutztown University men's track and field team earned three other podium finishes on day one of the PSAC Indoor Championships at Lehigh University Sunday, Feb. 18.
