Miller Gallery opens Owen Lowery Exhibition

The Miller Gallery is excited to present “Control” by Owen Lowery, a fully immersive interactive projection environment - altered visually, sonically and atmospherically by the collective impact of people. Lowery spent four weeks on campus working with students from Computer Science, Gaming Club, Interactive Design, Art Education and Animation courses to design and discuss this installation. Lowery is a Pittsburgh-based interactive artist with a mission to create situations that foster intrinsic curiosity in children and adults alike. Owen prioritizes Universal Design in his work, hoping that all people—regardless of age, height, ability or disability—may engage in a meaningful way. For more information, please visit Lowery's website. Imagery created in collaboration with the Louisa Gonsor Library, the Rohrbach Library, Stratton Administration Center and Sharadin Arts Building will be on display. This interactive exhibition is open to the public through Sunday, Dec. 1. The Miller Gallery is located in the Sharadin Arts Building, off the Atrium Lobby.  Gallery Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; Noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and 2-4 p.m. Sundays.

Announcements

Graduate Assistant Requests

We are pleased to announce the call for Centrally Funded Graduate Assistant (GA) applications for Fall 2025. This year, we've implemented a revised evaluation process to ensure our GA positions align with both student educational benefits and university operational needs.

Key Points:

  1. Application Deadline: Friday, Nov. 15.
  2. Online Form.
  3. Separate application required for each position.
  4. Priority given to positions with returning GAs.
  5. All GA positions require an application.

The evaluation process will involve university vice presidents and the dean of graduate studies. Positions will be ranked based on their importance to university operations and educational value to students.

Timeline:

  • Dec. 6, 2024: Department chair/area director reviews due
  • Jan. 10, 2025: Academic dean/VP reviews due
  • Jan. 31, 2025: Final committee review
  • Feb. 14, 2025: Decision notifications sent

Remember, GA duties should align with students' academic and professional goals. Appropriate tasks include research assistance, peer counseling, lab work and faculty support. Note that GAs cannot instruct lectures or labs without faculty present.

For positions not approved for central funding, a separate call will be issued for department-funded or externally funded GAs. These require departments or grants to cover the stipend and 50% of in-state tuition. The deadline for department-funded applications is Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. Externally funded positions have no set deadline.

We encourage all eligible departments and faculty to consider how a GA could enhance your area while providing valuable experience to our graduate students. This program is vital to our mission of academic excellence and student success. For questions, please email .
