Human Library Returns to KU

The Human Library will be returning to KU on March 28. Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to volunteer to be a "book" for this one-of-a-kind event in which you can learn to "unjudge someone." We are recruiting book participants for the event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, by Starbucks MSU. Please stop by our table near Starbucks to learn more or register to be a participant at https://library.kutztown.edu/humanlibraryHome
The Human Library is an international organization and movement that first started in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2000. It aims to address people's prejudices by helping them to talk to those they would not normally meet. The organization uses a library analogy of lending people rather than books.

Making Diversity, Equity and Inclusion a Mission in the Classroom

You Belong Here: Making Diversity, Equity and Inclusion a Mission in the Classroom is a resource that provides perspective on how faculty and universities can make diversity, equity and inclusion a mission on campus and in the classroom. Although these conversations may be uncomfortable, if we don’t talk about race in the classroom, where else will it happen? It’s time to break the code of silence and focus on creating a welcoming and diverse environment. This is not the job of one single person; it requires full participation from faculty and students alike.

Student Accommodation Letters Are Ready

On behalf of the Office of Disability Services, welcome to the Spring 2023 semester. Spring 2023 accommodation letters are now available for students to start distributing to course professors via KU email. The subject line will indicate that you are receiving an accommodation letter and will list the corresponding course number. Please save a copy of these emails for your records.
Students registered with the DSO are instructed to discuss their approved accommodations with professors during office hours or via KU email. Please remember, a student’s disability and accommodations are considered confidential. While you may not ask students to disclose their disability, you may inquire about their difficulties and the challenges faced in the classroom. Additionally, please be mindful that some students may be self-advocating for the first time.
DSO provides training sessions to interested faculty and staff regarding implementation of accommodations, as well as creating accessible classroom materials. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to schedule a training session, please contact the DSO at 610-683-4108, email DSO@kutztown.edu or stop by the office in 215 Stratton Administration Center. The DSO is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the spring semester.
