Honorary Doctorate for Nationally Respected Attorney Mark R. Weaver

The Kutztown University Council of Trustees approved the awarding of an honorary doctorate degree Thursday, Nov. 2 to Mark R. Weaver, Esq. ’83, M’85. Weaver will be presented a Doctor of Laws at the institution’s 2023 Fall Commencement Saturday, Dec. 16, O'Pake Fieldhouse. A Pennsylvania native and current Ohio resident, Weaver is a nationally respected attorney and crisis communications expert with nearly four decades of experience advising clients including governors, U.S. Senators, Members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, as well as business and education leaders. Along the way, he has worked in all three branches and at every level of government.

Doctor of Social Work Student Presents at Prestigious Conferences

Alice Fischer, a Doctor of Social Work student, and Dr. John Vafeas presented "Developing an Academic School Social Work Research Center: A Partnership with the Practice Community" at the annual program meeting of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Friday, Oct. 27, Atlanta, Ga. They also presented in October at the PA Chapter of the National Association of Social Work on "Do It for The Money! School Social Work Salary Trends and Economic Justice," a study of school social workers' salary trends in the state of Pennsylvania from 2015 to 2023.

Open Hour with Provost

Free Flu Vaccines for Faculty and Staff

In collaboration with Lehigh Valley Health Network, the KU Health Center invites all faculty, staff and students to receive a flu vaccine at no charge. We will have an open vaccine clinic 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 7, 218 McFarland Student Union Building, across from the Multipurpose Room. No appointment is needed. Please bring your KU ID and wear a loose-fitting shirt. Available while supplies last.

Friend Inc. Holiday Boxes

The Community Outreach Center, in collaboration with Friend Inc., is looking for student organizations and university offices to consider donating to the Thanksgiving Holiday Food Box Drive. Please see the link below for items that can be included in each holiday box. Thanksgiving boxes can be dropped off anytime between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 and Monday, Nov. 13, Community Outreach Center, 281 McFarland Student Union Building.

University Curriculum Committee

The next University Curriculum Committee (UCC) meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 30. The proposal deadline is noon Thursday, Nov. 9. Please submit proposals to the UCC SharePoint site. Gatehouse earns PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year; Five others from KU Field Hockey named All-PSAC

Senior defender Sarah Gatehouse was voted the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Year and was joined by five other Kutztown field hockey student-athletes on the All-PSAC teams, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Gatehouse and Juliana Donato were tabbed to the First Team. Erin GonzalezGrace HarroldMackenzie Kile and Danielle Panati were all voted to the Third Team. It is the second time Gatehouse is on the First Team and Donato's second time as an All-PSAC performer, earning Third Team last season.
