Celebrate Diwali and Dia de los Muertos Nov. 1

Diwali, the Festival of Lights commonly celebrated in South Asia, and Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead commonly celebrated in Mexico, are both Friday, Nov. 1 this year. Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and Dia de los Muertos is an uplifting holiday, a time to celebrate and remember those who have passed on. We will be celebrating both these Friday, Nov. 1, with a table in the MSU near Starbucks: Diwali 10 a.m. to noon, and Dia de los Muertos 1-3 p.m. Mango lassi and samosa samples will be available for Diwali while supplies last, and Mexican hot chocolate will be available for Dia de los Muertos while supplies last. For Dia de los Muertos, offerings or “offrendas” are often given and a table is set up that can include a loved one's favorite food and their picture. If you'd like, please feel free to email a copy of a picture of a loved one to mishra@kutztown.edu by Thursday, Oct. 31, that we will print out in black and white to include on the altar. We will also have tea lights to light for those who have passed on.
