Emerick Named Recipient of 2023 John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Dr. Brooks Emerick, professor of mathematics, was awarded Kutztown University’s 2023 John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The award was presented during the university's Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration Friday, Aug. 25. The John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was established by John P. Schellenberg, emeriti professor of physical science, faculty alumni and friends to recognize an early career faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding work.

KU Graduate Named Finalist for PA Teacher of the Year
Benjamin Hoffman '15, M'20, M'23, a teacher from the Kutztown School District, is one of 12 finalists nominated for the 2024 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award. The 12 finalists are selected from applicants and recognized in Harrisburg each fall. Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year will be announced at a state awards ceremony in December and represents the commonwealth at various national, regional, and local functions culminating in the National Teacher of the Year ceremony at the White House.

Fall 2023 Attendance Verification Process
For the Fall 2023 semester, we are using the Starfish platform for attendance compliance utilizing the “progress survey” function of Starfish. The initial attendance verification – required federally for awarding of financial aid – will be available Sept. 6 to 12. Faculty are able to indicate whether students have attended or have never attended by utilizing one of two flags. Please be sure to verify the attendance status of every student. Students who have just added a course, and a meeting has not yet occurred since that change, should be marked as attending.
