COE Dissertation Defense
EDD candidate, Mallie Culpepper-Yablonsky, will present and defend her dissertation titled, "Culturally Integrating Nuestra Juventud: Understanding Spanish-speaking Multilingual Learners through Culturally Relevant Pedagogy," 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 245 Beekey. All are welcome to attend. Her dissertation committee chair is Dr. Helen Hamlet. Her committee members include Dr. Catherine McGeehan and Mrs. Katie Sames.

Emma Hope wins PennACE Student of the Year Award
Congratulations to Emma Hope for winning a 2023 PennACE Student of the Year Award. She is the first KU student to win this internship-focused award. As a transfer from Lehigh Carbon Community College, she completed a virtual summer internship at the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

ACT Presents "Rock of Ages"
Actors Creating Theater (ACT) presents the hit jukebox-musical "Rock of Ages" 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 and 2-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, Schaeffer Auditorium. This entirely student-run performance is a musical and dancing extravaganza. Ask your students and advisees, you'll know students on stage, in the pit or working as stage crew. Come support our students, hear the songs you know and the ones you forgot that you knew. Tickets are on sale now.

Philosophy Club Meeting
The KU Philosophy Club will meet 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 312 MSU. Christian Van Slooten will present "Causation, Hume and the Problem of Reapplication." All are welcome. Starfish Workshops Spring 2024
Faculty and staff can sign up for 30-minute sessions to review Starfish functionality, learn about new features and ask questions. Users can choose from a list of available session times and topics. 2024-2025 Early Event Registration Deadline
The Office of Conference and Event Services has established the deadline for early consideration for room reservations and activities scheduled for the 2024-25 academic year as noon Friday, March 8. For more detailed information and guidelines on the process, please visit the website below.
Please consider the following when planning your events for the 2024-25 academic year:
- All requests must be entered by a faculty or staff member in the EMS Room Reservation System.
- Any early reservation requests for a student organization must be submitted by that organization’s advisor.
- Any events received after noon Friday, March 8 will be handled on a first-come basis.
- All events submitted outside of the 2024-25 academic year will be handled at the appropriate time according to scheduling policies.

KU/JCPenney Suit-Up Event
You are invited to attend a KU/JCPenney Suit-Up Event held 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, JCPenney at the Lehigh Valley Mall. Get up to 50% off professional clothing. Spring 2024 Attendance Verification Process
The initial attendance verification for Spring 2024 courses – required federally for awarding of financial aid – will be available for faculty in Starfish beginning Wednesday, Jan. 31, and will remain open through Tuesday, Feb. 6. Faculty should indicate whether students have attended or have never attended by utilizing one of two flags. Please be sure to verify the attendance status of every student.
