Kutztown University Launches Direct Admissions Program to Provide Immediate Acceptance and Scholarship Offers

Three universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) have launched a new program to simplify and streamline the admission process for students and families. Kutztown University, Shippensburg University and Pennsylvania Western University (PennWest) are now offering real-time acceptance and scholarship offers to high school seniors who meet each university’s admissions requirements through a partnership with Niche Direct Admissions®. Arts Gala Holiday Party

The Kutztown University Arts Society cordially invites you to a Holiday Party to celebrate the spirit of the season 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, The Publishing House, 243 West Main St., Kutztown, Pa. All proceeds benefit the K-12 Kids Summer Art Camps and KU Presents! Family Series. An evening of art, music and holiday spirits. Raffles for original artwork by local artists Rick Salafia and Jeff Dietrich, jewelry workshop with Doug Wunder, art camp scholarships, piano lessons with Maria Asteriadou, dinner at La Maya and more. Shop with our alumnae vendors Amanda Seanor, Hadley Wiktor and Madison Evans. Pop-up shops of permanent jewelry and local folk store artists, as well as a Winter Wonderland Workshop for kids 8-and-up from 7-9 p.m. Event includes hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and music by the KU Jazz Trio. Fancy festive holiday attire is encouraged. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for the Children’s Workshop and can be purchased online. Mobile Mammograms Returning to KU; Register Today

The Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute will bring its mobile mammography coach to Kutztown University Monday, Dec. 9. Screenings will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center parking lot. The screening service will be offered to women over 40 years old who have not had a mammogram in the past year. The event is open to the entire community. Post-traditional and graduate students, as well as staff, faculty and community members can benefit from this opportunity. No prescription is needed for women over the age of 40 who have not had a mammogram in the past year. There are also grant funding opportunities for those over 40 without insurance; those interested should contact the Lehigh Valley Health Network for more information. New CEL Journal Post

Please take a few minutes to visit the Center for Engaged Learning (CEL) faculty journal to read our latest post. This month, Erin Kraal discusses how Empathy Maps remind us who is in our class, how to connect with them emotionally and how to pay attention to their experience by reflecting deeply on their perspective. Also, be sure to check out the first of a three-part series discussing the Tarot of Teaching card deck, a creative tool designed by CEL to enrich and energize the structure of a class period.

Field Hockey Finishes as National Runner-Up

No. 3 and fourth-seeded KU field hockey opened its weekend with a 4-3 victory over No. 1 Shippensburg University Friday, Nov. 22, in the national semifinals, advancing the Golden Bears to the national championship game for the second-straight year. KU had its quest for two straight NCAA Division II championships end as No. 8 and seventh-seeded Saint Anselm netted the only goal of the game, an overtime, golden-goal winner, to defeat KU 1-0 Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24, at Limestone University's Saints Field.

Women's Soccer Falls in NCAA Second Round

The third-seeded Kutztown University women's soccer team won its NCAA First Round game Friday, Nov. 22, 2-1 over Charleston (W. Va.) in Erie, Pa. KU couldn't replicate the magic that got it to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships, as the Golden Bears left McConnell Family Stadium in shock after a goal in the final 30 seconds gave Gannon University a 3-2 victory in Sunday evening's matchup.

Field Hockey's Gatehouse Earns Second Straight NCAA Elite 90 Award

Graduate defender Sarah Gatehouse of the Kutztown University field hockey team was presented with her second consecutive NCAA Division II Field Hockey Elite 90 award during Thursday evening's championship banquet at 1800 Drayton, Spartanburg, S.C. The NCAA Elite 90 award honors the exceptional achievements of student-athletes. The prestigious accolade is given to those who have not only excelled at a national championship level in their sport but have also achieved the highest academic standards among their peers. The Elite 90 is proudly awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
