Native and Indigenous Showcase Nov. 12

Join us noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 218 MSU, for our Native and Indigenous Showcase. There will be guest speakers, food, art, culture, opportunities to learn, films and much more. The Native and Indigenous Showcase is celebrated to recognize the history, culture and contributions of Indigenous peoples, as well as the challenges they continue to face. Our goal is to honor, revere and respect those who paved the way for us. We use both the words Native and Indigenous, since they have slightly different meanings but are commonly seen as exchangeable. The word Native is used to describe a group of people who occupied their land. One example of this is the Lenape tribe, who inhabited lands in the Delaware valley. The word Indigenous is more global and inclusive and is used to describe people who are descendants of the people who inhabited America, the Pacific and parts of Asia and Africa prior to European colonization.

Evacuation Drills - North Campus

We will be conducting evacuation/fire drills in buildings located on North Campus Wednesday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 15, and Monday, Nov. 18 (weather permitting). Please take a minute to review the building evacuation plan for your area. Evacuation plans are posted at various locations, typically on walls in hallways within each building. The focus of the evacuation drills is to practice a safe and expedient egress from the building in the event of an emergency. Assembly areas must be a minimum of 100 feet away from the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Faculty Can Continue to Raise Kudos and Flags in Starfish

The Midterm survey is closed; however, faculty can continue to raise kudos and flags of concern by just selecting the preferred course and using the flag or kudos buttons. Flags of concern include "in danger of failing," "recommendation to withdraw," or a "custom academic concern." Faculty can also indicate if a student has "stopped attending" (with the date of last attendance entered in the comment field). Every kudos and flag template has an option to add custom content; two options are completely customizable. All message templates can be viewed in Starfish D2L. Please email starfish@kutztown.edu, call 610-683-4106 or attend a Starfish drop-in training session.

CEL Workshop: Playing the Motivation Game

Student motivation is a huge issue in our courses and many faculty identified this as one of their top challenges. In this workshop held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, CEL Office, 6 Rohrbach Library, we'll play some games to find new ways to motivate the students in our courses. Led by Erin Kraal, you'll leave with new ideas to inspire your students, with a few prizes, too.
